isagq.exe

sorry not sure if this is the right forum

I got an error message saying isagq.exe has stopped working and needs to close.
I googled it but found nothing about it.
I checked the task manager and found it and when I checked the file location I found this:-
isagq.dat 26/11/08 dat file 6kb
isagq 23/11/08 application 264kb
isagq_nav.dat 21/11/08 dat file 200kb
isagq_naps.dat 15/11/08 dat file 1kb

since the 23/11/08 my laptop has been going weird, mouse wouldn't work (had to change it to a different usb port to get it to work), screen went to black and white lines, laptop wouldn't shut down, adobe reader opens by itself and runs in the background, only know it has opened when I go to turn off the laptop, sometimes there is 2 or 3 adobe pages opened like this.

Hoping someone can help shed some light on this

thanks in advance
Grace

Hi Gracey, Welcome to Free PC Help.:)

The precise answer to your question is that as of this morning no one has found anything on the "files" that you named. That does not mean that no one will. This is a pretty diverse forum.

Regardless there are a few things you can do that may solve the problem for you.

First, if you have not already tried, do a System Restore to a date prior to when the problem first appeared.

What is System Restore? - Windows Vista Help

Don't be concerned if the restore seems to take a while and lag a bit. It does that.

Even if System Restore seems to work, and certainly if it does not, You should follow the steps below.

It seems likely that this is a result of malware that has infected your system. Once you have finished please come back and let us know how you made out.

  • Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent.
It is a combination of the words malicious and software.
The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.

  • Required Cleanup Steps
    1. Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled
    2. Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF)
    3. Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below)
    4. Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below)
    5. Clear out old System Restore points
    6. If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested.
The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something.
The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed.
Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes.
The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours.
In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer.
Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean.

For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page
To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below.
From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range"
click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware.

____________________________________________

STEP 1
  • Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2)
    1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
    2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
    3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
    4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
    5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
    6. Restart your computer.
__________________________________________________

STEP 2
  • Follow these instructions carefully.
  • Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware.
  • You can also download it from Majorgeeks.com
  • When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main.
  • For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox
  • NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored
  • Then click on "Empty Selected".

STEP 3
  • Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com
    • Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files.
    • You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next.
    • You can leave the automated check for updates on.
    • You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information.
    • DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings.
    • On the Top Left select the Scan your computer button.
    • Make sure there is a CHECK MARK on all Fixed Drives.
    • Click "Perform a Complete Scan". Click "Next" to Repair issues found and reboot the computer when prompted to do so.
__________________________________________________

STEP 4
  • Install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes - (direct download)
    • Accept all defaults for the installer
    • Allow the program to update the definitions
    • Click on the Quick Scan and click Next.
    • If any items are found allow it to clean them and then Reboot your computer.
__________________________________________________

STEP 5
  • Run an online scan with ESET from Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner
    • You must use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan.
    • If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu.
    • Accept the terms and click "Start".
    • Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications".
    • Click "Start" to begin the scan.
    • When completed restart your computer

Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating.
At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted.

If required this is the download link for TrendMicro™ HijackThis™
Unless instructed to by the Technician helping you then do not download this tool.

Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one.

sorry I should have said I was running windows vista home premium, will ATF-Cleaner work with vista?
I run CCleaner, superantispyware free edition, avg anti virus everyday and i do an online scan once a week using trend micro online scan. I will do a system restore and run all scans again now and let you know the results. Thanks for resonding

Gracie,

ATF Cleaner will work with Vista.

Please just follow the guide above it has proven itself over time if you follow all the steps and not substitute.

just done a system restore, could only go as far back as the 19/11/08. once system restore was complete and the laptop booted back up I got this error message

Catalyst Control Centre Host application has stopped working.

A problem stopped the program working correctly. windows will close the program if a solution is available.

I also got the choice to debug but it didn't help.

The isagq.exe etc are no longer in my files.

now going to install and run the programs you advised. will keep you updated. thanks again

Hello Gracey. The file you state contains random characters for a file name. Such kind of files are usually created by infections to avoid detection from security products. Please run the above mentioned procedure and restart the computer. The problem will most probably resolve itself but if it doesn't, please post back here and we will try to look up an alternate solution. In any case, please let us know how it goes.

Also, I have added the name of those random files as Tags to your thread so that someone with a similar problem might find a solution. :)

Hope that helps.

finally installed, updated and completed all tests. All the isagq files have gone, super antispyware didn't find anything but the malwarebytes found and deleted 25 infected objects. Ran Avg scan and then an online scan, they didn't find anything.
Have rebooted the laptop several times and so far haven't got any errors and adobe hasn't been running in the background. I'm hoping it stays that way:D
Thank you so much for all your help:)

I will take your advice and delete avg from my system and will try another anti virus.
thanks

I run NOD32's Security Suite Gracey on a paid for 1 year license and it's very good.

Please allow Free PC Help to point out that we are not endorsing any products in that list for any financial gain whatsoever, but rather, to help the members with regard to quality security products.

Just as a final point, once you are happy that your machine is now OK, I would recommend removing all previous restore points. These may be harbouring traces of the malware you have now removed. Go back to system restore as previously described . Don't start a restore, follow the instructions below.

To turn off System Protection for a hard disk, clear the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.
Then shut down the computer, and reboot it. Then-

To turn on System Protection for a hard disk, select the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.

A new "first" restore point will then be created and your system should then be OK.
Nev.

Sounds like a nasty virus. I tried googling isagq and it pointed me to some **** sites. You might have opened something infected. I suggest running a deep anti-virus scan if you can since you mentioned the the laptop is acting crazy. If you can't, you may have to reformat the hard drive.

And I suggest that the advice given so far appears to have cleared Gracy's problems.

Our Malware procedure post is very comprehensive in it's analysis and coupled with the recommended security products should result in a clean machine.

Thank you for your input though Don.

I am the only person that uses this laptop and I can assure you I do not visit any **** sites. When I googled isagq.exe I didn't find any **** sites, although I never clicked on any of the links as they were all written in a foreign language. I don't download music or videos either. I did have problems with firefox when I upgraded to firefox 3, although pop ups were blocked I would still get them and they used to open another firefox browser. I now use google chrome and the only places I visit are marapets, scotlands people, ancestry .com and google mail.

I will delete system restore. thanks
