I have just found out that a file of my daughters with photo's of her late nan was not backed up to my ext hd, so after my recent troubles and system re load etc the file is not there. My repair man ran file scavenger and it came up with 1000's of jpegs but they either won't open even in photoshop or they are just pics from every website ever visited. As you can imagine the distress i have caused i would welcome any recommends for a proven programme i can buy.
The file was on the descktop and c drive.
Really looking for help with this one. Thanks keith

Ok I'm assuming that you can at least see the jpeg's even though they won't open yes?

Can you right click on any given pic and tell us the properties of it please

The best program I've used to recover files, is (ironically:)) called Recover My Files:

Data Recovery Software to Undelete Files; Disk recovery; Recover Deleted Files

It has the ability to re-create the file table/system, so that when you explore the recovered data, you actually see your separate folders such as My Documents, My Pictures, etc.

The recovered data should always be stored on a different storage device than what you're recovering from.

no i can't see the jpegs, or i should say the one's that did come up on the scavenger are such small file sizes they must just be icons, and any pics that are visible are so small you can't view them. Going throught the recovered folder there are no pic's that any of us have taken i am sure they are just web pics so i think it did not find her folder of pics. the search just turned up 1000's of web jpegs.

i downloaded a free prog, pandora and ran that got over 14k items, been going through them and loads of web pics but any jpeg of a decent file size has no preview and when saved to another drive won't open either. i have no problem in paying for a recovery prog or service by one of these recovery companies but would i get any different results

update : the Pandora prog turned up trumps, i did the scan again and this time read the instructions :o and filtered on the jpegs, got it down to just under 9k :D been sifting through bit at a time and i'm finding lots and lots so my daughter is pleased, although there are still a lot that will not open so may look at spending some £££££££££ later. As usual thanks for your replies. Keith

Thanks for letting us know the status of the problem Keith. It will help us tackle future problems similar to yours. :)
