Files Are Corrupting

I have 3 hard-drives inside my desktop computer which have all been partitioned.

The main one i use (Hitachi 500gb) is partitioned into two C:\ and E:\

C:\ recently suffered from a virus and i formatted it

when i reinstalled windows and opened E:\ all my files are corrupt...


any ideas??

Are the files such things as Word files etc or files that need a particular program to open them?

If so just reinstall those applications back to C:

Depending on what the Virus was it could easily have damaged files on all partitions. Whether or not they can be recovered is another matter. As Wolfey asked - what type of files and how many?

OfficeRecovery.com might be able to repair some depending on what's wrong with them if they're office type files.

The Files are there but are corrupt..

eg. they have renamed themself to *378_poIujs* and so on...

Well if they were just renamed then you can use a hex editor to view what the file type is and then put the extension on it and open it.

Example:
378_poIujs
rename to 378_poIujs.xls or 378_poIujs.doc or 378_poIujs.jpg etc... depending on what the extension is for the file header within the application.

Then if it works and you can open it you can then rename it to anything you want.
