I want to use familier software not W10 stuff

I have a new laptop and thanks to helpful posts here I have stopped nearly all of the adds.

I am used to using irfanview for all pictorial stuff but up comes some unknown program. I want rid, what is it please, I'd like to zap it.

Another question (if allowed), I have a desktop and have a memory stick with all linux stuff on it. I want to erase its HDD, partition it and re-install W7 home premium (I'll have to down-load the install bit as its disk came with out that) on one partition and linux on the other. Is there freebie stuff on the 'net for such?

Without a name, we'd just be guessing here.
Can you take a screenshot so that we can see exactly what program is trying to open.
or....
If you click Start >> Settings >> System >> Default Apps
and then look under Photo Viewer ... this will tell you want the default program is set to.
You can of course change this to whatever you prefer.

This is just me.........
I never click on a pic to open it anyway.
I right click on the pic and then choose what program I want to open it with.
Sometimes it'll be Paint, sometimes Office Picture Manager... it all depend on what I want to do with the pic.

What Operating System is on the HDD at the moment?
So is it a dual boot that you want to create on the Desktop system? (Win7 and Linux)

They didn't give the picture viewer a name just that it was suitable to view W10 pictures .

Yes it is a dual partition and dual boot that I want on the HDD of the desktop. I am hoping to get W7 home (the CD disk that came with it) operating on it first then when successful try it with linux.
What is on it ATM? Linux......and I have no idea what version either. It is something I downloaded and then erased my W7 thinking I was installing it on the CD. Oh woe is me.......:eek2:

Ok, not too difficult.
One of my systems is a triple boot (Win7, Win8.1 and Win10 )
Dual booting on a Desktop is actually really handy.
Just remember that the 2 OS will share the hardware, but apart from that the 2 are completely separate and have to be treated as such.

Ok, you'll need to install Win7 first.... and then add Linux.
Win7 will then already have the tools installed, that you'll need to create an extra partition.

It wasn't funny at this side of the screen! I had to get a laptop with windows instead of one with linux........it upset my plans. The router gave up the ghost just before that and I could not get back into the site I use most as it is written in such a way that I cannot get through to the admin side to tell them their system is broken. It is staffed by volunteers........obviously unable to sort it.

Do I need to erase all from the HDD first?

Hi Jim,

When you install Win7 (boot from the installation disc ) you will be given the option of formatting the hdd.
This is the best option and guarantees a clean install.

Ok, that bit was alright until it found that the NTFS had been converted to FAT32. I have DBAN on a CD and flash drive but neither wants to go to erase the disk.

I found an installation program at MS but the message on the desktop is 'No signed device drivers were found' etc.
Where might I find them please?

Yes---well trying to. It did not work either way . I presumed that any required drivers would have been in the downloadable installation bit or on the disk that came with the rig. I was wrong on both accounts --- as I frequently am with these things. Not logical at all. Well not our logic anyway.

I have been googling again today for an iso (I have no clue to what that is) of the drivers for W7 but all I got was effectively another copy of W7 without signed drivers. Not what I wanted. Where on earth do I get them from? Signed windows drivers that is.

Are you creating a dvd or usb version of the installation?

Download Windows 7 Disc Images (ISO Files)

Also make sure when creating the dvd or usb ... that it's a bootable version.

It is from the same site as you quoted below, it gave me the same results as I got on my windows seven disk - with out signed drivers.

I was just clicking and dragging them to a DVD . Reading the instructions more carefully I am supposed to burn them into an ISO (don't know how to do that - afraid I might lose W10 on this new laptop)

Also make sure when creating the dvd or usb ... that it's a bootable version.

The learning curve gets steeper? Having said that the program was very much like my W7 DVD. Well it acted the same, bootable or not when I attempted to put W7 drivers (that is what I thought it was) in my desktop with it.

It's quite easy really.
Your Win10 can be used to download and burn the ISO.
Win10 has burning capability.
Once the Image has been burnt to a dvd, remove the dvd and use this to boot the other system.
It should then run the Win7 installation.

But the learning curve will start to level out .... eventually

PS As an after thought I have been trying with Sony 4.7GB DVD+R and Ridisc 8xDVD+RW 4.7GB disks. I am getting the same response with each.

You can easily download a 3rd party program that will burn ISO files.

Thanks for all your patience and help Starbuck, you deserve a medal.
I have tried three and have been stymied every which way. Either 'there is no disk' or just does nothing. I think I'll give it a rest and try again tomorrow morning.

You need to download the ISO file first to the desktop and then select it from there to make the image.
