Hi I hope someone can help me as I seem to be getting no where. I recently purchased a laptop off the ebay i7 8mb ram 1 tb hard drive running windows 8.1 now as I updated to this from win 8. I also using a acer laptop with i5 4mb ram 500gb hardrive running win 7 home premium .

I started getting problems accessing the internet a few days ago , don't know how to describe it really , I feel its slow its always spinning cannot watch iplayer wont load properly wont load Netflix, Netflix just appears as a white screen with a list in right column of blue writing. It reminds me of the old dial up where everything was slow.

It happens on both laptops now. I only connect with one at a time. BT router just plain old broadband. On a bt speed test showing 8.13mb to router and 5.98 to computer, it said to connect using cable but those readings are for wifi. which I think should be plenty. which makes me think something is using my bandwidth.

I looked on web to see if there was a programme I could use to see if something was using my bandwidth on both computers , found net balancer but cant understand it. have Norton antivirus on both computers and malewarebtyes .

Any help really appreciated, had trouble even logging into my email web based. again only loaded on a white screen with blue writing. Funny thing is Google searches seem to work fine?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Free PC Help.
Norton is a well known problem. I recommend getting rid and using something else eventually.
However for now, with the laptop disconnected from the net, disable the Norton, then check and make sure the Windows own protection is turned on. Then try the internet connection again and see how it goes. Let us know what you find please so we can advise further if that doesn't improve things.

Hi notaclue123

It sounds like it maybe your BT Box.

If you haven't already. Please unplug the box for 5 minutes, Plug it back in, Wait another 5 minutes then try the internet again on one of your laptops.

Not necessarily something using your bandwidth but possibly slowness due to something else. If it only happened a few days ago and the computers were running OK before that with whatever software is currently installed, then it seems it could be something external that is common to both computers. If the 'unplugging/plugging in' of the BT box doesn't help, I wonder if your near neighbours are also getting the trouble? Anyone you could ask to make sure the problem is not an area one?
