Hello and Welcome to FPCH D4VE. :)

I think this is mainly a hardware compatibility issue. In simple words, the battery you received as a replacement is not made for the make or model number of your laptop. However, this is entirely my guess.

The hardware experts might be able to elaborate and explain the problem much better than me, and if possible, might guide you through a solution to this. Please bear with us as they will immediately consider your problem as soon as they are online. Thank you for your patience and your co-operation. :)

Hi Goku thanks for the reply, the battery I have received is not an official Sony branded battery but powers the laptop OK it is just the window that stays onscreen I would like to get rid of. The battery is the correct fitment!

I will try and search for a solution that will remove the nag but I cannot assure you that there will be a fix. However, I will try my best. Just hang in there till we search for a solution. :)

Hi Guko the problem has fixed itself! may have been just a warning message to inform me that I wasn't using an official Sony product.
Thank you anyway.:)

Hi Guko

turned on laptop this morning and the message has returned the box is titled Caution and reads,
The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer.
click "OK" to enter Hibernate mode, and remove and reinsert the battery.
See the electronic VAIO(R) user guide for more infiormation about using the battery.

I believe it will show itself on every boot and therefore you will need to ignore it too. However, if the error message you stated above is completely new, then it might be much more serious. Please wait till I research the problem and any possible solutions. :)

D4VE, can you also please give me an account of the currently running processes on your Vaio? Also, can you confirm if there is something like isbutility in your Startup? Here is how to check it.

1) Click on Start.
2) From the Start Menu Options, choose Run.
3) Type msconfig and click Ok. This will bring up System Configuration Utility.
4) In the System Configuration Utility, click the tab called Startup.

Post back the results as soon as possible. :)

Sorry for the lapse D4VE as I was away for a while. Anyways, back to topic, I think that the file I suggested above is the cause of the nag. Disable it by unchecking the box next to it and restart the computer. See if the nag is still there or not.

Also, for safety reasons, you might also want to remove the utility. It is known as ISBMgr. You can uninstall it through the Add / Remove Programs list. Just search for ISBMgr in the list and click the Remove button next to it. However, I don't recommend this unless the first method fails to remove the nag.

Please post back the results as soon as possible. :)

Hi Goku

There was no ISButility in start up but did remove ISBMgr and that appears to have removed the message even after restart on the battery.
Thanks for your help and hopefully it has cured my fault.:)

Thanks again Goku, this is a problem with Sony products as I have a PSP and that will not let me charge a second party battery in the console, I have to charge it on a stand alone charger which isn't a problem with that but the laptop battery needs to be charged in the unit.
Anyway we got there in the end, thanks again,

Dave.:D:D:D

Thats a part of their business strategy so that you are forced to buy their products only. A very dirty trick to nag customers but there is a work around as I have shown you. Again, I am glad that I could help you. Please feel free to ask any questions or doubts that surface. :)

Hello,

just some additional information for you guys. I have a sony laptop with an original battery. I have got the same problem. With dave's solution I did solve the problem. thank you dave by the way. However, I wanted to let you know that this problem seems to manifest with Windows Vista and Windows 7 (I have windows 7 installed in my sony). conclusion, this problem does not necessary have to do with a non sony compatible product! cheers domenico

it works

I have a Sony Mini laptop vgntt290 i had a problem with email settings in MS outlook, I encounter a lot of issues with the Sony software so I decided to format and configure the laptop again so i did a standard configuration not using any of the Sony software or restore, the computer worked really good and my outlook email accounts work like a charm, but........................................... the caution warning telling me that the battery was not the proper battery or original and suggesting me that I should hibernate and remove the battery and put it back on, so I did that and did not work. then I tried everything even went to the windows battery setting and I found the setting that could deactivate the message but only had two options Hibernate or Shutdown. i went to search for an answer and I knew that there was something I downloaded while i was getting the Sony drivers for the laptop on line so I proceeded to uninstall all the updates from the Sony drivers one by one it was a long process and painful besides the caution warning window kept on popping up and you need to constantly click on wherever you want to go.
I DID WHAT YOU SUGGESTED IT AND I WENT TO "RUN"AND TYPED "MSCONFIG" AND UNDER THE START "SYSTEM CONFIGURATION WINDOW" SELECTED THE "STARTUP" TAB THERE WAS A 'ISBUTILITY" AND IT SAYS "SONY CORPORATION” RIGHT NEXT TO IT. JUST UNCHECK THIS CHECK BOX AND CLICK ON"APPLY" THEN IT PROMPTED ME TO "RESTART" I DID THAT AND ‘BINGO!” PROBLEM SOLVED THIS IS CLEARLY A WAY OF THIS MANUFACTURERS TO FORCED YOU TO SEND THE PC TO THEM FOR A REPAIR YOU DO NOT NEED, JUST BECAUSE YOU PROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER YOURSELF OR YOUR COMPUTER TECH. “UNBELIEVABLE”

thank you very much for your help! GOKU

Thanks Goku

Just started getting the same message with my original battery and an upgraded sony battery. Both are legit sony brand batteries. Your suggestion of disabling the isb utility worked great for me. Thanks!!
