Hi Guys
These are probably very basic questions to some of you, first let me put you right in the picture, I’m a silver surfer and all I’ve done with a computer is use it, certainly not uninstall Windows or Office, in fact when I tried downloading a program off the internet I promptly got conduit along with it and had to take my computer somewhere to get it cleaned up.
Right the master plan is to uninstall Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate and uninstall Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, in other words format the hard drive so I can do a clean install because I’ve been told they are not legit.
I’m getting someone to download and burn to disc for me a legit copy of Windows 7 Profession which I then intend to upgrade to Windows 10 Professional, also a legit download of Microsoft Office Professional 2016 so obviously they will come with license keys.
I’m going to back my work up onto a passport.
Below are a few questions which I hope someone can put me right on, I have to admit I think they will be the first of many because I don’t know what the heck I’m doing.
1: I have got some programs on the computer which I would like to keep always assuming the will still run with Windows 10 and Office 2016.
The computer hard drive is partitioned Local Disk (C and Local Disk (D mainly in Local Disk C there are some program file folders, some are listed under Program Files others under Program Files (x86).
2: Am I right in assuming the executable files for example Audacity will be inside these folders???
3: In order to back them up is it simply a case of dragging and dropping the folders I want to save onto the passport??
4: Let’s assume I’ve back up what I need can someone give me a blow by blow account of what I need to do ( click on) in order to format the computer so I can do a clean install??
5: Ok, say the computer is formatted, am I correct in assuming I will need to first install Windows??
6: I put the disk into DVD player I assume it starts to spin what will appear on the monitor and what do I need to do in order to start the installation??
I’ve no doubt I’ll have whole shed load of questions to ask, but with your help I’m hoping I can manage to get the computer back up and running.
Thanks for any help you can give chaps
Clive
