So my dad installed a new operating system on his PC since the one he had was giving his problems. He installed Vista Home Premium, and everything went fine until he tried to connect to the internet. Looking the problem up on a different computer in the house, a lot of people with the same problem had to install drivers, and i tried to do that. I went to the HP page and looked for the correct driver, but they only had drivers for Windows 7 and 8. I tried installing a driver for Windows 7 (that was the original operating system) but it failed. Is there any way i can install a driver that will work with Vista for the PC? The computer is a Compaq Presario CG5814 Desktop PC.

Hi and welcome to FpcH

You state .... Compaq Presario CG5814
Did you mean CQ5814

If this is your machine it looks as if there is only a LAN ( cable ) connection ............... RTL8105E-VC

I have had a quick look and cannot find Vista drivers for this - not to say they don't exist.

Let me know if I have the correct machine.

yes it is the CQ5814, sorry for the typo. When we called the Verizon company, the company employee told us to download this driver:
Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0). When my dad downloaded it and then tried going through the setup on his computer, it didnt work. Thank you for helping

Thank you so much! the driver sucessfully installed and now the PC is working! :) again, thank you a lot!
