PC Illiterate
I very recently bought a new HP DX2400 MT with Windows XP Professional SP2 and an new HP Notebook with Windows Vista.
I transferred my existing files from my old computer to the DX2400 using a memory stick. After setting up the Internet connection an automatic update loaded SP3 to this computer. Following this my memory stick would not be recognised. Only a Kingston Datatraveller stick works but Cruzers do not. HP were contacted who suggested downloading an updated chipset driver and removing SP3. This was done but still the Cruzer won't operate. Plug this Cruzer into the Notebook and it operates OK, this Notebook has not been connected to the Internet or updated. On the DX the Cruzer is there in the Device Manager but not under the USB area. It has a Yellow Question mark against it but no Driver can be located when Windows searches. I downloaded the Cruzer U3 Driver but this does not work as Windows says the stick is not a Cruzer device!! Any clues or suggestions?

Hi

Welcome to Free PC Help.

Have you tried to uninstall the USB drivers?

Uninstall all the USB drivers then reboot the computer and let Windows reinstall the drivers. Tell us if this work or not.

Another problem with the Cruzer maybe that its set for windows vista readyboost and not as a storage device (I had one like this and I had to reformat the stick as it was blue screening the OS) - as has been suggested uninstall the USB drivers and reinstall them from the disk that came with the laptop

USB Problems

Did all of the things mentioned, i.e. deleted USB's and restarted and they all reloaded but still no joy when a Cruzer stick was inserted. My Kingston Datatraveller stick which works ok is shown in Device Manager under the Disk Drive area. When a Cruzer is inserted in the identical USB socket, it shows up as Other Devices with a large yellow Question mark against it. I have downloaded the U3 Driver from Sandisk and loaded it onto the computer but if I try to Load Driver for the Cruzer it says it is not a Cruzer device ???????????? Other memory devices apart from the Cruzer also don't work and the only one I have found to operate ok is the Kingston.

An update.
Uninstalled the drivers again but this time I left the Cruzer plugged in before restarting. On restart, drivers were re-installed and this time the Cruzer showed up in the Disk Drive area in Device Manager. Now appears to be working ok as other Cruzers have been plugged in and opened OK. :):)
