Radio Just Randomly comes ON!!

Hi Spartan.

Let's disable needless programs from automatically starting when Vista starts.

1) Right click on the Vista start icon and choose properties>Customize. Put a check on the Run Command option and click ok.

2) Left click on the Vista start icon and click on run. Type in msconfig and click ok.

3) Put a dot on Selective Startup and click on the Startup tab. Scroll through the list and uncheck all entries other than your security software and jusched. Click apply and ok. Do not choose to restart the computer at this point.

Run HijackThis and choose Scan Only. put a check in the box on all of the items that end with "No file" or "file missing". Do not put a check in any other entries. Now click on "Fix Checked" and restart the computer once HijackThis does its thing.

How are things now?

Sorry, I forgot you had Vista.

Keep the MS Windows entries.

Any Nvidia stuff can be unchecked as well.

The free version of sas doesn't need to run at startup. Only the paid version does.

Java is jusched.

Any other entries you're not sure about?

I've seen that Oreans driver before on the SuperAntiSpyware forum. As I went to search for the thread on that forum, I see you got your answer:

Any other issues?

I just got my answer thanks to you Seth. Mind fully at rest and I thank you guys enormously. THANK YOU!

I will be making a donation, it wont be from the email address i have registered here, as I have a Paypal account on a work email.... this shouldnt be a problem i hope?

Also - may I start another post regarding a similar prob on my work PC, running XP. Brought it home due to pop ups etc, done all of the above, however there re still Adware Tracking Cookies being picked up by SAS.
Or am I being too cheeky?:D

THANKS LOADS SETH, WOLFEY, n MAYNARD - top guys!;)

You're welcome.

Tracking cookies aren't threats. Any site you go to will install a cookie that remembers things like your login information, what you viewed last, etc.

A cookie in of itself can do no harm. I just uncheck the option to detect them

Thanks again Seth!

ESET has picked up a threat /virus in the work PC now, and hopefully that was what is causing the pop ups. Still running but I'm hopeful!

Best Regards,

S :D

FYI-Reason why most scanners detect cookies:

When antispyware scanners appeared a few years ago, they detected harmless tracking cookies to make it look like the scanner was finding additional stuff. Since then, scanner writers include cookie detection lest one compares the scanner to another and says, "This one must be better, as the other didn't detect all those cookie things".

For any scan such as SAS or MB, always update and run complete scans. Also remember to ensure that each found item is checked.

A very small donation made, but I'm sure every little helps. Keep up the good work guys, thank you, really. :)

Makes Sense I guess :)
