[Solved] W10 flaky tonight & last night

Hi Jim,
I assume that you managed to boot up in Safe Mode?
You say "after 12 hours plus" - did you run Safe Mode for 12 hours without errors ?

I am away for the weekend - I will pick this up when I get back :)

This morning when I started the computer I was offered an upgrade to W11. I thought that might solve this problem, nothing was said about the cost. Thoughts?
Jim.
PS just saw your Thursdays post where KenB said
- did you run Safe Mode for 12 hours without errors ?
No, I did not. I am limited to the time I can put up with safe mode so I'd rather put up with the inconveneince of the lock up or an upgrade.

My computer is now being re W10 by the techie at HP. Having gone through the procedure yesterday I was left with the computer doing its thing and having to put in its passwords which it promptly denies is correct. Very frustrating indeed, No matter the software or what ever. the passwords would not be recognized.

Frustrating for you Jim - hopefully the tech will sort it out

Yes, he is coming here Monday to pick it up. It freezes completely now but it is still in warranty. I think it is a Friday afternoon one :)
They say things go wrong in threes.
The roller door fails to operate on the down operation in the garage and the seal needs replacing on the oven door. Oh and the dish washer is on its last legs. Apparently it is making a noise when doing it's thing.
Oh woe is me!
Jim.

By my reckoning Jim - that makes 4 :)
You must simply be unlucky.

Hope all goes well with the repairs.

Well it has started of fine as DPD collected the computer yesterday (Sunday) a day earlier than they said, the seal has been fitted to the oven so its just the roller door on the garage roller door later today, Almost there?

Yaroo! Or even things like that. It came back early as well! On the sheet that came with it it said "a part had come disconnected", whch explains some other problems, like the keyboard failing to put some output to the screen. A real pain in the butt! Hee hee, I'm using it now. Its teriffic!
Thanks KenB for a lot of input on that one but it did need the presence of a techie to find the fault. Whereas the HP warranty is only 12 months on this machine John Lewis gave a special 2 year one - well worth it as it turns out.
I consider this one solved!
Jim

I wrote a post but lost it...... I hate when that happens.

All was well with the desk-top when it came back except when I wanted to use open-office. MSW10 wouldn't allow that and promptly dumped the program back to the desk-top page. It wanted me to buy MS 365 or something like that. The techie at John Lewis suggested that I re-install W10 (which must be an older version I think) by tapping F11 on start-up. This has worked. If it doesn't stop the closing of Solitaire then back it goes again.
Now where has the other post gone?
Jim.

Hi Jim
I have just had a look at your recent posts ....
Apart from the one above [today] your latest post is April 2nd.

I find it very odd that you can't have Open Office on the machine at the same time as M$Word.
Have you tried uninstalling Open Office and re-installing again ?

Also - if you don't want M$Office ...
Type ......settings..... in the Search Box
Click on Apps
Scroll down to MSOffice [ or whatever is there regarding MS Word ]
Click on it.
You should have an optiion to uninstall.
